Sailplane Rides
About Soaring
Soaring flight is little known in the United States, but has a long history in Europe. Taken to the extreme, soaring flights have carried pilots to over 50,000 feet and non-stop from Pennsylvania to Georgia in a single, silent day. Using the sun’s powerful engine and a sailplane, you can soar over worldly cares and beautiful countryside in elegant, commanding silence. Two and three hour flights above our serene Wisconsin farmland are routine. Fuel for the mind and soul, soaring flight is one of the things that make life worth the effort.
A lot of people often dream of flying, but don't pursue it for one reason or another. Through the Wisconsin Soaring Society, you and your family can learn to fly by simply pushing the Hollywood inspired fears of flying aside and getting on with it. Nothing matches learning to fly for channeling the energy of a youngster and providing proof to the young and not-so young, that with a little effort, lifetime goals can be set and met. Club membership, low cost sailplane rentals and lessons provided by FAA certificated instructors puts the dream of flight within reach of anyone fourteen years of age and older.

About Sailplane Rides
If you are interested in a sailplane ride for yourself or someone you'd like to give the gift of flight, then a WSS gift certificate can be a great introduction to the wonder of motorless flight. Gift certificates can be purchased at any time and rides will take place during our May through October soaring season.
We offer two ride options:
A sailplane flight that begins with an aerotow to 3000 feet above the ground by our Piper Pawnee towplane followed by gliding flight back to the starting point at Hartford Municipal Airport. Some thermal soaring will also be possible if the weather on your chosen day is cooperative.
A sailplane flight that begins with an aerotow to ONE MILE above the ground by our Piper Pawnee towplane followed by gliding flight back to the starting point at Hartford Municipal Airport. Some thermal soaring will also be possible if the weather on your chosen day is cooperative.
